Terms, in plain words

The deal between you and baff.gg: what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you. By making an account or using baff.gg, you agree to it. It goes together with our Privacy page.

Last updated October 16, 2026. baff.gg is in alpha, so these terms change when the app does.

The short version

  • baff.gg is a free chat app run by one person in the US. It’s in alpha: things change and sometimes break.
  • You need to be at least 13. Age-restricted channels are for adults only.
  • Be decent. No illegal stuff, harassment, spam, scams, malware or pretending to be someone else.
  • What you post is yours. You let us store it and show it to the people you shared it with.
  • Baffles aren’t money. You can’t buy them, cash them out or sell them, we can change or remove them, and every Baffle purchase is final.
  • Server moderators run their servers. We step in on reports and when these rules are broken.

Who can use baff.gg

  • You have to be at least 13. If the law where you live sets a higher age for using a service like this, you need to meet that one too.
  • Give your real date of birth when you sign up. We use it to refuse anyone under 13 and to keep people under 18 out of age-restricted channels.
  • Age-restricted channels are for adults (18+) only. Accounts under 18 can’t open them, and adults confirm once before going in.
  • You can’t use baff.gg if we’ve closed an account of yours before for breaking these rules.

Your account

  • You’re responsible for your account and for what happens on it. Keep your password to yourself and use one you don’t use anywhere else. If you think someone got in, change your password: that logs out every other device.
  • One person per account. Don’t share an account, and don’t make accounts for someone else. You can have more than one account, but not to dodge a ban, spam or fake support for something.
  • Accounts are for people. Automated accounts are made as bots in the Developer Portal, and they follow the rules in Bots and developers. Don’t automate a normal account.
  • Keep your email address working: it’s how you verify your account and reset your password.

What’s not allowed

These apply everywhere on baff.gg: servers, DMs, profiles, server names and icons, custom emoji, bots and webhooks. Servers can add their own rules on top; they can’t take these away.

  1. Anything illegal

Don’t use baff.gg to break the law, or to post things that are illegal to share.

  2. Sexual content involving minors

Zero tolerance. We delete it, close every account involved, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as US law requires.

  3. Harassment and threats

No threats of violence, no targeting someone again and again, no posting someone’s private details (like their address) without their OK, and no encouraging self-harm.

  4. Spam and scams

No mass messages, mass friend requests or invite spam, no phishing, fake giveaways or tricking people out of their account, their Baffles or their money.

  5. Pretending to be someone else

Don’t pose as another person, a bot you don’t run, or baff.gg itself. Only baff.gg’s own accounts carry the OFFICIAL, SYSTEM and STAFF tags; never imitate them with a name, avatar or message.

  6. Malware

No viruses, token grabbers or anything else built to harm someone’s device or account.

  7. Getting around bans and limits

If a server bans you or we close your account, don’t come back on a new one. Don’t try to get around the spam check, captchas, rate limits, permissions, paid channels or age-restricted channels.

  8. Scraping and API abuse

Don’t collect people’s messages, profiles or member lists in bulk, and don’t hammer the API. Normal bots built through the Developer Portal are welcome; see Bots and developers below.

  9. Selling or trading accounts

Accounts, usernames, servers and Baffles aren’t for sale. Don’t buy, sell or trade them, for money or anything else.

  10. Attacking baff.gg

Don’t try to break into our server, other people’s accounts or anything you weren’t given access to. Found a security bug? Tell us through Contact Support and don’t use it.

Moderation and reports

Servers moderate themselves

Each server is run by its owner and the moderators they pick. They can delete messages, time people out, kick and ban them, and set up AutoMod. We don’t watch every server, and a server’s own rules are up to it, as long as they fit these terms.

Reporting messages, people and servers

Anyone can report a message they can see: right-click it (or press and hold on a phone) and pick Report Message. Our staff see that one message as it was when it was first reported, the reasons and notes people gave, and who reported it. They don’t read the rest of the conversation, and they don’t read your messages unless someone reports them. The person you report is never told who reported them. When staff act on a report, the people who reported it get a short note saying so.

You can also report a person (Report User, from their profile, the member list or a DM) or a server (Report Server, from its menu, its Discovery card or an invite). Staff then see the profile or the server as it was at the first report, not its messages.

What we can do

When something breaks these terms, we can, without warning when it’s serious:

  • delete messages and files,
  • take down a post someone sold for Baffles, which also removes it from its buyers’ libraries,
  • take away Baffles, badges and labels like Verified or Partnered,
  • take a server out of Discovery,
  • suspend an account for a while or until we lift it (it’s logged out everywhere and can’t log in, and trying shows why),
  • and close accounts and the bots and servers that belong to them.

We try to be fair and to match what we do to what happened. Think we got it wrong? Tell us through Contact Support.

Your content

What you post is yours: messages, files, emoji, avatars, profiles, servers. Only post what you have the right to share.

You give baff.gg permission to store it, copy it, process it and show it, worldwide and free of charge, only as far as we need to run baff.gg. In practice that means: keeping it in our database and storage, including the nightly backups; making pictures smaller and converting them to WebP; building link previews; serving files through Cloudflare; and showing it to the people who can see that channel or DM, plus wherever you or a server’s moderators send it (like a published announcement or a server listed in Discovery). We don’t use it for ads and we don’t sell it.

When you delete it

Deleting a message removes it and its files right away. A few copies outlive it, because someone else is relying on them:

  • forwards someone made of your message, and copies published into other servers from an announcement channel,
  • posts you sold for Baffles, which stay in their buyers’ Purchased Content,
  • a reported message, which our staff keep until the report is handled and 90 days after,
  • and the nightly backups, for up to 14 days.

Deleting your account works the same way; see Leaving baff.gg and the Privacy page.

Copyright

If you think something on baff.gg uses your work without permission, tell us through Contact Support with a link to it and what it copies, and we’ll look at it.

Baffles

Baffles are baff.gg’s in-app currency. Please read this part, because it’s where people most often expect something different.

They have no real-money value

There’s no way to pay us for Baffles, and no way to turn them into money. They aren’t your property, they aren’t a bank balance, and they can’t be sold, traded or given away outside the app.

How you get them

Every account gets a starting amount once, when its email address is verified (currently 1,000). baff.gg staff can give more, and people allowed to sell in an official server earn them from buyers (see below).

Where you spend them

Only in official baff.gg servers: on posts with locked files (priced posts), on paid channels, and in the Marketplace. Other servers can’t sell anything for Baffles, and priced posts only exist in official servers.

We can change or remove them

Staff can take Baffles away (for example after a mistake or a broken rule), and we can change how many you start with, what things cost and what’s for sale. Deleting your account gives up your balance. Bots never hold Baffles.

The Marketplace

The Marketplace sells perks and betas: perk roles in an official server, and early access to features we’re still testing. They’re perks, not property. A beta ends when we finish or stop testing the feature behind it, and if a server stops being official, its Marketplace closes, its paid channels become free and its priced posts can’t be bought any more. You can also buy something as a gift for a friend.

Selling in official servers

People with the right permissions in an official server can put a price on a post’s files or on a channel. What buyers pay goes into that channel’s pool. Withdrawing the pool moves it to your account minus a fee (currently 10%) that goes to baff.gg. It’s still Baffles: never money.

Purchases are final

There are no refunds. Not when a seller deletes a post (you keep your copy in User Settings > Purchased Content), not when you remove something from your library, not when staff take a post down, not when a beta ends or a perk changes, and not when a channel is deleted.

Bots and developers

You can build bots and apps in the Developer Portal (up to 25 per verified account), and use webhooks. If you do:

  • You’re responsible for your bot and everything it posts. These terms apply to it like they apply to you.
  • Keep your bot token secret. Anyone with it can act as your bot. If it leaks, reset it in the portal.
  • Respect the rate limits (listed in the docs), and wait when you get a 429 instead of retrying in a loop. Don’t use extra bots or accounts to get around them.
  • Be careful with what your bot sees. A bot gets the messages in every channel it can view, and details about the people who use its commands. Only use that for what your bot does, tell people what you keep, and never sell it or use it to build profiles of people.
  • Don’t make a bot that looks like baff.gg, baff.gg staff or someone else’s bot.
  • Server owners decide which bots join their server and what they may do there. Bots can’t hold, spend or withdraw Baffles.

We can change the API as baff.gg grows. We keep the docs up to date when we do.

baff.gg is in alpha

  • Features change, move or disappear. Some people see features we’re still testing, and those can end at any time.
  • Things break. Messages can fail to send, calls can drop, and sometimes something is lost.
  • There’s no uptime guarantee. baff.gg can be down for updates or problems. You can check how it’s doing at status.baff.gg.
  • Keep your own copy of anything you can’t afford to lose. User Settings > Your Data gives you one.

Other services

baff.gg leans on a few outside services. They have their own terms, and we aren’t responsible for what they do or show. The Privacy page lists every one and what it sees.

  • Cloudflare stores and serves uploaded files and runs our DNS.
  • KLIPY provides the GIFs in the GIF picker. The GIFs are KLIPY’s content, not ours.
  • Discord. Migrate a Server copies a Discord server’s name, icon, channels, roles, permissions and emoji (never messages or members) through a Discord bot. You need Manage Server on that Discord server to run it, and Discord’s own terms apply there. baff.gg isn’t part of or endorsed by Discord.
  • Websites people link to, and pictures in link previews, come from those websites, not from us.

No guarantees

baff.gg is free and provided as it is, while it’s still being built. We don’t promise it will always work, be secure, or never lose anything, and we don’t promise it fits any particular purpose.

What people post is theirs, not ours. We don’t check messages before they’re sent, and we aren’t responsible for what other people, bots, servers or linked websites say or do.

As far as the law allows, baff.gg and the person running it aren’t liable for indirect or follow-on losses (like lost data, lost profits or lost Baffles) from using or not being able to use baff.gg. Some places don’t allow these limits; there, they apply only as far as the law there allows. Nothing here takes away rights you have by law that can’t be signed away.

Leaving baff.gg

You can leave whenever you like: delete your account in User Settings. First transfer or delete any servers you own. Deletion happens 14 days later, and logging in before then lets you cancel. Then your personal data is erased, your account shows as “Deleted User”, your bots and apps go with it, and your Baffles are gone. Your messages stay under “Deleted User” unless you choose to delete them too.

We can also end your access if you break these terms (see What we can do). The parts about your content, Baffles having no value, no guarantees and the law keep applying after an account ends.

Changes to these terms

We’ll update this page as baff.gg changes, and the date at the top shows the latest version. For big changes we’ll let you know in the app before they apply. If you keep using baff.gg after that, you’re agreeing to the new terms; if you don’t agree, you can delete your account.

Law and contact

baff.gg is run from the United States, and these terms follow US law. If a part of them can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.

Questions about these terms: open User Settings and pick Contact Support. It starts a DM with baff.gg Support, and someone from our team answers there.
